Rain in Málaga is rare and usually brief, but if you catch a grey day there’s no need to waste it. As a “city of museums” with covered markets and cosy bodegas, Málaga is one of the best Spanish cities for an indoor day.
Dive into the museums
This is the obvious move. The Picasso Museum, Centre Pompidou, Carmen Thyssen and the free CAC and Museo de Málaga can easily fill a rainy day, and most are within a short walk of each other in the centre.
Eat your way through Atarazanas Market
The covered Atarazanas Market is perfect rainy-day territory — browse the stalls under the stained-glass window and graze at the tiny tapas bars inside.
Tapas crawl and cathedral interiors
Duck between tiled bodegas like El Pimpi and Casa Lola, and tour the cavernous interior of Málaga Cathedral. A long Andalusian lunch is the most civilised way to wait out a shower.
Our verdict
A rainy day in Málaga is a great excuse to go deep on its art and food. Build your day around two or three museums and a long lunch and you’ll barely notice the weather.
